Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for trauma. It involves briefly focusing on a traumatic memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation typically through guided eye movements. This process helps reduce the intensity and emotional charge of the memory. EMDR has been extensively researched and is recognized as a leading approach for healing trauma and PTSD symptoms. You can learn more about EMDR therapy here.
All EMDR sessions are a minimum of 60 minutes. These sessions are highly structured, and I will guide you through each phase of treatment so you feel informed and supported every step of the way. We begin by strengthening your distress tolerance skills to ensure the process feels as safe and manageable as possible. Once you feel ready, you’ll be invited to focus on a specific distressing memory while I facilitate bilateral stimulation-typically through hand movements. This process often leads to a noticeable shift in the emotions, thoughts, and beliefs linked to the event. We will continue this work until the level of distress associated with the memory is significantly reduced. You will always have the choice to pause or stop the session at any time.
EMDR can be an effective treatment for a range of concerns, including:
