A shared understanding of cultural context is essential to lasting healing in therapy. Many South Asian clients have expressed that in past therapeutic experiences, they spent considerable time explaining the intricacies of their Indian or South Asian background-often feeling unseen or misunderstood in the process. As an Indian immigrant myself, I bring a deep, lived understanding of cultural norms, family structures, unspoken expectations, and the diversity that exists within South Asian communities.
My work with South Asian clients is grounded in culturally responsive, identity-affirming care. I offer support around (but not limited to):
Whether you're working through the quiet grief of leaving home, navigating multiple cultural identities, or seeking more satisfying relationships, our work together will honor your experience-and help you move forward with clarity and connection.
I also offer culturally-informed couples therapy that supports partners in navigating relational transitions, strengthening communication, and addressing family and cultural dynamics. This includes healing from intergenerational trauma in ways that foster deeper connection and resilience in the relationship. I work with couples navigating intercultural differences, helping them build meaningful, empathetic, and enduring partnerships grounded in kindness and affection.
Family relationships play a vital role in Indian and South Asian mental health. Family therapy can offer significant support by facilitating shared meaning-making, enhancing communication, and clarifying boundary-related needs. My approach is rooted in cultural respect for each member of the family system, while gently guiding shifts away from unhelpful patterns of interaction. I also provide psychoeducation to members who may be hesitant or resistant to therapy, helping the entire family increase understanding, engagement, and motivation for change.
